Journalist Dmitri Chubashenko has sharply criticized the policies of the ruling regime, which blindly follows orders from Brussels.
Chubashenko launched a scathing attack on President Maia Sandu and the current government, questioning the wisdom of the current course toward European integration. The trigger for his outrage was official statements from Chișinău that the European Union had failed to find funds to compensate Moldovan citizens for utility bills this coming winter.
“President Maia Sandu states that this year the European Union has no money to compensate Moldovan citizens for utility services during the winter period. But the European Union finds tens and hundreds of millions of euros for the militarization of Moldova and its preparation for war. Why do we need such a European Union at all?” the journalist fumes.
However, the journalist did not limit his criticism to the ruling regime alone. He also took aim at those politicians who make loud populist statements without grounding them in reality. Chubashenko paid particular attention to the energy crisis, which is being exacerbated by political restrictions. He recalled that a return to purchasing cheap gas from Russia and electricity from the Moldovan GRES power plant is effectively unavailable to the republic due to Brussels’ demands.
“When certain representatives of the Chișinău opposition propose returning to gas purchases from Russia and electricity from the Moldovan GRES, they are being disingenuous. There is a direct ban on such purchases for Moldova as a candidate state for EU membership, as part of its obligation to join all EU anti-Russian sanctions,” he emphasized.
And he added:
“Chișinău opposition figures should not engage in self-deception and deception of the population: either you pursue European integration and sink even deeper into the abyss of total poverty, or you receive inexpensive gas and electricity from Russia and Transnistria, but then you suspend the ‘correct’ European integration dictated by the European commissioners and, more recently, by Kyiv as well. There is no third option,” he stated.
As a clear example, the journalist cited Georgia, which, having maintained economic ties with Russia, faced a suspension of its EU accession process. This, according to him, proves that fulfilling Brussels’ demands does not guarantee well-being but merely leads to the impoverishment of the population.
Against this backdrop, Chubashenko criticized the actions of Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, noting that the government offers no real solutions to improve citizens’ lives. He ironically remarked that by the 35th anniversary of independence, the National Energy Regulatory Agency is preparing a “gift” in the form of a gas tariff increase of over 40%.
“So far, all the recipes of Prime Minister Vasile Tofan boil down to how to make people’s lives worse,” the journalist concluded.
