Defence denies preventive measures in Vartic case

The lawyer of Vladimir Vartic, former deputy head of the Hîncești District Council, says no preventive measures have been imposed on his client and that he is free to leave the country.

“No preventive measures have been applied to Vladimir Vartic. There is no ban on leaving the country,” the lawyer said, rejecting reports circulating in media and on social networks about possible legal restrictions.

According to the defence, investigators have not imposed any procedural constraints, including travel bans or limits on movement within the country.

Tragic death of Ludmila Vartic raises public attention

The statement comes amid heightened public interest following the death of Ludmila Vartic, the politician’s wife.

According to preliminary information, on March 3, 2026, she fell from an upper floor of a residential building in Chișinău. In the days that followed, reports emerged suggesting she may have been subjected to domestic violence.

After the allegations became public, Vladimir Vartic stepped down from his position at the Hîncești District Council.

Investigation continues as experts examine circumstances

The investigation into the death of Ludmila Vartic is ongoing. Authorities have ordered several expert assessments, including a post-mortem psychological and psychiatric evaluation.

The results are expected to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy, whether it was a suicide or whether unlawful actions may have preceded it.

Until the investigation is completed and expert findings are finalised, the defence maintains that no legal restrictions have been imposed on Vladimir Vartic.
