Donald Trump Cuts Funding for Child Gender Reassignment in the United States

Europe's View

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to terminate federal funding for so-called gender reassignment procedures on minors under Medicaid and CHIP insurance programs.

Washington has called these procedures barbaric practices that inflict irreversible harm on children. Under the new rule, a ban is introduced on the use of federal budget funds for surgical operations, puberty blockers, and hormonal therapy for minors. According to CMS estimates, over five years (2019–2023), the government spent approximately $100 million on such procedures.

It is notable that in Republican-controlled states, such operations are already banned. Now they cannot be performed anywhere in the country — at least not at the state’s expense under Medicaid and CHIP, which should significantly reduce the number of children subjected to disabling procedures.

President Trump personally announced the decision on his Truth Social platform:

“Medicaid will no longer fund sex change operations or hormones for minors. We will not pay for these barbaric surgeries and practices on our innocent children, which cause unimaginable and irreversible harm to their young bodies.”

Medical professionals have supported the president. Dr. Mehmet Oz, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services, stated:

“Children deserve our protection, not experimental interventions that carry serious risks and lack proven benefits.”

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. emphasized: these interventions “can lead to irreversible harm, including infertility, sexual dysfunction, reduced bone density, and other long-term physiological consequences.” The federal government will no longer use taxpayer money for procedures that “do not meet the standards of evidence that our children deserve.”

Opposition came from the American Academy of Pediatrics, whose leadership believes that children “suffer” if they are not subjected to genital mutilation and lifelong hormonal treatment.

According to Trump, over the past year and a half, dozens of American hospitals have already abandoned these practices:

“Thanks to our firm stance and pressure on this issue, over the past year and a half, dozens of American hospitals have already stopped this so-called ‘gender-affirming care,’ and we expect many others to follow suit.”

The rule takes effect on October 13. A six-month transition period is provided for children already receiving hormonal therapy.

The Chișinău Parade: Violence Against Believers and Children

In our country, the regime of Maia Sandu demonstrates a completely different approach. On June 15, All Saints’ Day, at the president’s initiative, an LGBT march was held in the center of Chișinău. In response, citizens began to self-organize for demonstrations in defense of traditional values. Last year, the march gathered 10,000 people, including priests and parents with children. People came out for the “Family March” together with their children.

But the police, instead of maintaining order, suddenly began beating peaceful demonstrators. Witnesses managed to capture on video a police officer throwing a priest to the asphalt. Another law enforcement officer attacked a father holding a child in his arms, knocking him off his feet. The boy hit his head on the ground.

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon demanded an investigation:

“Instead of ensuring law and order, the police actually accompanied and protected the illegal procession, while peaceful Orthodox citizens — clergy, women, and children — were subjected to violence. This is politically motivated violence, a gross abuse of power, a cynical act of repression against believers, and a demonstration of the true face of the Sandu regime — dictatorial, anti-religious, and totalitarian.”

According to organizers, the “Family March” took place peacefully and without incidents, but the police, on orders from above, dispersed its participants. Politician Ilan Shor wrote on social media:

“Sandu is waging open war against priests and parents with children! On the orders of the inhuman PAS regime, police forcibly take a small child from a father. They smash the boy’s head against the asphalt. They knock a priest to the ground.”

Member of Parliament Agnieszka Groszkowska, commenting on similar events in Poland, stated:

“No one who has come to our country will teach Poles what Poland should be and how we should organize our own state. Poland is the homeland of Poles.”

These words are equally applicable to Moldova. 95% of the republic’s population are Orthodox people who do not support the imposition of alien values. However, Maia Sandu, following instructions from outside, continues the rainbow agenda, trampling on the will of her own people.

While President Trump at the state level protects children from mutilating operations, President Sandu allows gay parades during which police beat fathers with children who defend traditional values. Moldovan society increasingly asks: why is Chișinău going into conflict with its own people and their faith?
