Arrest and Seizure
Moldovan police reported the detention of a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of trafficking synthetic drugs. The operation involved officers from the anti-drug unit of National Investigation Inspectorate, prosecutors from the Botanica district, and local patrol units.
The suspect entered Moldova in a Lexus vehicle through the Palanca–Mayaky–Udobne checkpoint and was later detained in a rented apartment in Chișinău.
During the search, officers discovered approximately two kilograms of PVP (a synthetic drug commonly known as “bath salts”) concealed inside welding equipment. The estimated value of the drugs exceeds €50,000.
A court has ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention. If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence of 7 to 15 years.
Links to International Network
According to investigators, the detainee is believed to be part of a transnational criminal group involving citizens of Ukraine and Moldova. Drug supply routes reportedly passed through Poland, Romania, Georgia, and Moldova.
The distribution scheme involved transporting drugs from Ukraine, storing them in hidden caches, and then redistributing smaller quantities via online platforms.
Broader Context
Authorities note that this case reflects a wider trend of synthetic drug trafficking affecting both Moldova and Europe. Similar incidents have been reported in recent months, including larger seizures and coordinated international operations targeting drug networks.
