Former Orhei PAS leader resigns from all positions

Alexei Codreanu, a member of the PAS National Political Bureau and former head of the party’s territorial organisation in Orhei, has announced that he is leaving the party and resigning from all positions he held. He published the statement on social media.

“I joined PAS believing in meritocracy, internal democracy, transparency, integrity, accountability and respect. Unfortunately, over time, I saw a clear departure from these principles,” Codreanu wrote.

He also claimed that, in recent years, different opinions inside the party were treated as problems rather than as opportunities for dialogue. According to him, people who had the courage to think differently and speak the truth were pushed to the margins.

“I saw decent people being unfairly smeared, while lies and manipulation sat at the head of the table,” the former head of the Orhei PAS organisation said.

After eight years in the political project, Codreanu said he could no longer represent the party with the same conviction he had when he joined it.

PAS reacts to Codreanu’s departure

PAS MP Adrian Băluțel commented on his colleague’s departure during a television appearance. He said that during Codreanu’s four years in the National Political Bureau, the latter had never publicly raised complaints about party values or marginalisation.

“Never. And this worries me from the point of view of professional ethics,” Băluțel said.

At the same time, he described Codreanu’s resignation as a dignified act.

“We clearly stated that we understood the message from the people of Orhei and understood that we had not met their expectations well enough in the local elections,” he added.

However, Băluțel also said that when someone leaves a party, “it is not good to say such words”, calling it a matter of personal conscience.

Țîrdea mocks PAS talk of values

Political analyst Bogdan Țîrdea responded sarcastically to Băluțel’s statement.

“Agreed. The fact that police take drugs right in the office, the authorities pardon drug dealers, officials are involved in the deaths of spouses, and prosecutors who passed vetting have €75,000 found in their parents’ basement, these are just details that have nothing to do with values,” he wrote.

His comment reflected the tone of the wider online reaction. For critics of PAS, Codreanu’s departure is not just another resignation. It is another sign of internal decay inside the ruling party.

Leadership remains silent

So far, the PAS leadership has not issued an official comment on Codreanu’s accusations. In Telegram channels and on social media, users are already mocking what they see as the party’s growing hypocrisy, double standards and moral collapse. For years, PAS presented itself as the party of clean politics, transparency and reform. Now, one of its own former regional leaders says that the reality inside the party is very different.
