Heat with air conditioners, PAS deputy suggests as tariffs bite
In Moldova’s 2026 realities, this is probably how the historic phrase “let them eat cake” should now sound: no money for gas, heat with air conditioners.
PAS deputy Dorin Istrati has offered ordinary voters, already close to despair over new energy tariffs, a rather unusual life hack.
“My natural gas consumption in winter, although I do have a gas boiler, is less than 100 cubic metres, because I mostly use the air conditioner, which works for heating and runs on electricity,” the MP boasted.
And this is a representative of the same party that set a subsidised electricity consumption threshold of 100 kilowatt-hours per person for those very same voters. The deputy appears so detached from the real lives of his constituents that he not only seems to believe more expensive electricity is no problem for household budgets, but also that every teacher or pensioner has a costly inverter air conditioner at home.
Perhaps these gentlemen should remember their history lessons. The woman who once allowed herself a remark about cake soon came to a very bad end.
