Farage Accuses Government of Weakening Military

Leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage stated that successive Conservative and Labour governments have undermined the country’s defense capabilities.

“The Conservative and Labour governments have destroyed our defense capability. We no longer have a navy,” Farage wrote.

Trigger: HMS Dragon Incident

The criticism followed a report by Daily Mail about technical issues affecting the destroyer HMS Dragon, which was forced to halt in the Mediterranean Sea due to a malfunction in its onboard water supply system.

The vessel had been deployed to support the protection of British military bases in Cyprus but failed to reach its destination. Reports indicate that the crew experienced significant supply disruptions.

Official Response and Delays

UK military officials initially downplayed the issue, describing it as a “minor technical fault” and stating that the stop had been planned.

It was also noted that the deployment of the ship occurred with delays following regional security incidents.

Broader Concerns Over Defense Readiness

The situation surrounding HMS Dragon has intensified debate about the state of the armed forces of the United Kingdom. Media reports increasingly highlight concerns about military readiness, stockpile levels, and production capacity across Europe.
