ANRE steps in amid fuel supply complaints
Moldova’s energy regulator, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), has begun issuing fines to fuel stations accused of refusing to sell diesel despite having supplies available.
The move follows a wave of complaints from motorists about diesel shortages at filling stations across the country, prompting the regulator to step up enforcement measures.
Inspections launched as complaints lack detail
The head of the agency, Alexei Taran, urged complainants to provide more precise information in their reports. Many submissions, he said, fail to include key details such as the name of the fuel network, the specific station, or the date of the alleged violation.
Despite this, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has initiated on-site inspections to verify the claims.
Limited impact but visible enforcement
According to Taran, the checks are already producing results. One fuel station network has been fined 30,000 lei for violations related to diesel sales.
While it remains unclear whether diesel availability has significantly improved, the regulator’s actions signal an attempt to demonstrate control over the situation as concerns over fuel supply persist.
