Income declaration draws attention
The asset declaration of Moldova’s police chief Viorel Cernăuțeanu has attracted public attention after revealing details of a car sale.
According to the declaration, a Volvo XC60 (2019 model) owned by Cernăuțeanu was purchased in 2020 and sold in 2025. The reported purchase price was €25,000, while the sale price reached €37,000.
This indicates an increase of nearly 50% over the period.
Additional purchases and household income
Following the sale, Cernăuțeanu acquired a newer Volvo, a 2024 model, for €47,000.
The declaration also shows that the total annual income of the Cernăuțeanu family in 2025 amounted to slightly more than 1.32 million lei, primarily from salaries and pension payments. The income from the vehicle sale also contributed to the overall financial position.
According to the document, Cernăuțeanu’s spouse is employed in the presidential administration. Together, their salaries increased by nearly 200,000 lei over the year.
Loans and assets
The declaration further indicates that in 2024 Cernăuțeanu took out a loan of 200,000 lei at an interest rate of 9.82% for a two-year term.
No details were provided on how the funds were used. The family has owned a house with land valued at 1.85 million lei since 2023, according to the declaration.
