Moldova marks Orthodox Easter as leaders call for unity and faith

Orthodox Christians in Moldova and around the world are celebrating Easter, one of the most important religious holidays, commemorating the Resurrection of Christ.

Political leaders and public figures across the country used the occasion to deliver messages centred on unity, faith and shared values.

Orthodox Easter Moldova brings messages of unity

President Maia Sandu called for solidarity and cohesion within families, urging citizens to focus on “what truly matters: faith, hope and care for those around us.”

“Easter is the victory of good over darkness, the strength to move forward even when the path is difficult… It is in such moments that our true strength is revealed – the strength of being together,” she wrote on her account.

Greetings also came from Evghenia Guțul, the Bashkan of Gagauzia, who addressed citizens with an Easter message.

“I sincerely congratulate you on the bright holiday of the Resurrection of Christ. This great day reminds us of eternal values: faith, kindness, justice, respect for family, traditions and the spiritual foundations of our people. May the Holy Resurrection of Christ bring peace, harmony, prosperity and warmth to every home.”

Political figures share Easter messages

Opposition politician Victoria Furtună, leader of the banned Moldova Mare party, delivered a more reflective message, emphasising the role of faith in times of crisis.

“Dear believers, the prayers of this place have been a shield in difficult times against moral decay, against wars, against the loss of the soul. And today the message of Easter remains the same: without faith, the world falls apart; without peace, a person loses themselves. On this holy day, in this sacred place, let us remember: if Christ has risen, then we too can be reborn as a people. I call on everyone to be grateful for the sacrifice made by Christ for the sins of humanity. Christ is risen!”

Messages were also shared by the Party of Socialists, former president Igor Dodon, public figure Nina Dimoglo, and others, reflecting the broad participation in the celebrations across Moldova.
