New allegations have emerged in the investigation into the death of Ludmila Vartic, raising concerns about the integrity of witness testimony.
Defense: Witnesses Under Pressure
Family lawyer Gabriela Kornaker stated that key witnesses are facing significant psychological pressure. According to the defense, there is information suggesting that individuals are being influenced to provide false or incomplete testimony.
“We have information that witnesses are being intimidated. They are being told what they can say and what they should hide. There are even attempts to force people to give statements that do not correspond to reality,” Kornaker said during an appearance on Cutia Neagra on TV8.
Shift in Legal Strategy
Given these concerns, the defense plans to rely less on witness testimony – particularly from public officials – and instead focus on other investigative tools.
Cornaker emphasized that evidence is not limited to statements:
“There are other procedural methods and investigative mechanisms that can establish the facts. We expect the investigation to proceed in a way that reveals the full picture.”
Background of the Case
Ludmila Vartic died on March 3, 2026, after falling from an upper floor of a residential building in Chisinau.
Days later, reports emerged suggesting she may have been subjected to domestic abuse by her husband – a vice-chairman of the Hincesti District Council. The official subsequently resigned but denied all allegations.
Ongoing Investigation
More than 30 people have been questioned so far, including the victim’s minor children, who were interviewed under special conditions.
The investigation is being conducted by prosecutors and investigators in Chisinau, with the defense calling for a thorough and impartial process.
