Prosecutors announce detention

Law enforcement authorities in Moldova have detained former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov, prosecutors said on March 24.

The Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) stated that Osipov is suspected of abuse of office.

Case linked to former MP

The detention is connected to an ongoing investigation involving former Democratic Party (PDM) MP Vladimir Andronachi. Earlier this week, Andronachi was detained for 72 hours. He is suspected of creating and leading a criminal organization, according to prosecutors.

Information about the detention was first reported by Ziarul de Gardă, described as a pro-government outlet, which reported on Osipov’s status within the criminal case.

Investigation details

In the supervising authority, it was clarified that Osipov’s detention is directly linked to the same investigation.

“Alongside the former member of parliament, whose mandate expired in 2019, PCCOCS prosecutors have also detained a former deputy prime minister from the same period within the same case. He is being investigated for abuse of office,” prosecutors said, commenting on the coordinated nature of the detentions.

Status of the suspects

Both individuals are currently considered suspects. Investigators are examining the circumstances of their activities, which may have led to violations of the law.
