Vehicle Purchases Based on Declarations
According to 2025 asset declarations, a number of deputies from Moldova’s ruling PAS party reported the purchase of new or relatively new vehicles. Overall, this applies to approximately one in four members of parliament.
For example, Veronica Roșca declared the purchase of a Toyota RAV4 valued at around €30,800. Alik Baraboi reported acquiring a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE worth about €100,000. Other declared purchases include a Skoda Kamiq by Artemie Cătănăi, a Honda CR-V by Tatiana Cucuetu, a Toyota RAV4 by Valeriu Robu, a Kia Sportage by Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, and a Mercedes-Benz GLE by Andrian Cheptonar valued at approximately €42,600.
In some cases, the vehicles were registered directly in the deputies’ names, while in others they were registered under family members.
Financial Capacity and Declared Income
Based on the available data, at least 15 deputies reported having sufficient financial resources to purchase vehicles in the tens-of-thousands-euro range. Income and assets were declared in accordance with national legal requirements.
Economic Context and Policy Environment
These disclosures come amid several recent socio-economic policy decisions, including the refusal to remove VAT on fuel, the postponement of planned salary increases for teachers until the following year, and a pension indexation of 6.8%. These measures continue to be discussed in the context of overall income levels and the cost of living.
Income Disparities and Living Standards
Moldova remains one of the lower-income countries in Europe. Public discussion frequently highlights disparities in wealth and living standards across different segments of the population.
Comparable Trends in the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Similar patterns have been observed within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Anti-corruption authorities previously conducted checks involving senior police officials following increases in their reported wealth.
According to the official findings, no violations were identified. The reported income and acquisitions were deemed to be in compliance with Moldovan legislation.
