The Central Electoral Commission has removed Victor Perțu, a mayoral candidate from the Democracy at Home party, from the ballot in Orhei, following a challenge filed by his rival Sergiu Stancu, the PAS candidate for mayor.
Hidden Electoral Bloc Uncovered
Stancu argued that Perțu had been actively involved in the Shor party, including after it was declared unconstitutional. After reviewing the candidate’s volunteer lists, the CEC concluded that a concealed electoral bloc existed, identifying individuals previously affiliated with the Victory bloc among its members.
On that basis, the CEC voted to strip Percu of his registration. His name will not appear on the ballot.
Party Leader Vows to Fight Decision
The leader of Democracy at Home announced he would challenge the ruling in both national and international courts. He argued that Percu had been on course to win the mayoral race outright in the first round and that this, rather than any legal violation, was the real reason behind his removal.
The party leader also called on voters in Orhei to back any candidate other than PAS’s Sergiu Stancu, whom he accused of causing “60 million in damages to the national budget through Arena Chișinău.”
