Carp: Police Scandals Are Being Amplified to Force Interior Ministry Leadership Change

Moldova News

Lilian Carp, head of the parliamentary committee on national security, commented on a series of high-profile scandals, suggesting they may be part of a coordinated effort to discredit law enforcement.

According to him, public attention around several cases—including an investigation into police officers in Chisinau’s Botanica district accused of protecting drug-related crime, the case of Ludmila Vartic, and the recent disappearance of Sofia Cebotari—is being deliberately amplified.

Carp argues that the ultimate goal behind these narratives is to force a leadership change within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Their goal is to replace the people at the top of the Interior Ministry. The main target is the ministry itself. We see that all the actions they are trying to amplify are linked to it,” he stated.

He added that if such efforts succeed, similar tactics could be used against other ministries by leveraging sensitive or controversial cases.

Critics, however, point out that this framing shifts attention away from the underlying issues, suggesting that the problem lies not in alleged misconduct within law enforcement, but in the public discussion of these incidents.
