Italian police rescued—and then arrested—a Moldovan citizen who became trapped in a thorny blackberry bush after attempting to burglarize a private home during the night.

The incident took place in the San Martino district of Genoa. According to local media, the 42-year-old Moldovan man, who had previously come to the attention of law enforcement, allegedly tried to break into a private residence late in the evening. However, the homeowner spotted the intruder in the garden and immediately called the police.

Realizing that his plan had failed, the would-be burglar attempted to escape through a neighboring property. In the darkness, however, he failed to notice a dense wild blackberry bush behind a fence and ran straight into it. He became hopelessly entangled in the thick, thorny vegetation and was unable to free himself.

His rescue came with the arrival of police officers. After pulling the unfortunate suspect out of the bush, officers placed him in handcuffs and called an ambulance. The man was covered in cuts and scratches caused by the sharp thorns. Paramedics treated his injuries and transported him to a hospital, where his wounds were cleaned and bandaged.

After receiving medical treatment, he was taken to the Genoa police headquarters (Questura), where he was formally arrested.

According to the police, Italy’s Immigration Office is now verifying his immigration status as part of the standard legal procedures.
