Ukraine Hungary radio initiative launched by Kyiv
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced the launch of an online radio station broadcasting 24/7 in Hungarian.
According to ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi, the initiative is intended to communicate Ukraine’s position directly to Hungarian audiences.
“Every day Hungarian officials make statements about Ukraine. We are tired of responding to each of them and decided to present our position online through a 24-hour radio broadcast,” he said.
Reaction from Hungary
Hungarian officials have responded critically to the move. Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, accused Kyiv of attempting to influence the political environment ahead of national elections scheduled in the coming days.
He stated that the timing of the launch, shortly before the vote, raises concerns about potential external influence.
Broader context
Relations between Hungary and Ukraine have been strained in recent years, including disagreements over minority rights, foreign policy positions and regional security issues.
The latest development adds to ongoing tensions between the two countries, particularly in the context of the electoral period in Hungary.
