A serious road accident occurred in the town of Siechnice near Wrocław, where an Audi A4 carrying seven Ukrainian nationals aged between 19 and 27 crashed into a tree at high speed.
According to local police, all passengers sustained serious injuries. The most severely injured was a young woman who had been traveling in the trunk of the vehicle. Preliminary reports indicate that she suffered a fractured spine and broken ribs. Authorities also confirmed that every occupant of the car, including the driver, was intoxicated.
The crash took place during the night between Thursday and Friday. At approximately 12:20 a.m. local time, emergency services received a report that an Audi A4 had struck a roadside embankment and that the occupants required assistance. Six fire crews, comprising 23 firefighters, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, rescuers found a different situation than initially described. A destroyed road sign stood on the roadside, while the heavily damaged Audi had wrapped itself around a tree. All seven occupants were already outside the vehicle, so no extrication was necessary. The group consisted of two men and five women, all Ukrainian nationals. Authorities initially referred to them as “foreigners,” but journalists later identified their nationality.
Medical personnel confirmed that every individual involved in the accident, including the driver, was under the influence of alcohol. All sustained injuries of varying severity.
“One of the women was riding in the trunk. All those involved were foreign nationals between the ages of 19 and 27 and were intoxicated. Four female passengers were taken to hospital. One woman suffered serious injuries, including a fractured spine and broken ribs. The condition of the other injured passengers is still being assessed,” said Assistant Commissioner Aleksandra Freus of the Wrocław Municipal Police Headquarters.
The driver faces up to 12 years in prison, a lifetime driving ban, and possible deportation to Ukraine.
“Deportation is also possible in this case. The final legal qualification of the offense will depend on the evidence collected and the prosecutor leading the investigation,” the police spokesperson added.
As for the driving ban, authorities noted that the suspect was already subject to a court-imposed driving prohibition at the time of the crash. Nevertheless, he chose to drive again, allegedly committing another offense and putting multiple lives at risk. The 19-year-old woman who was traveling in the trunk may face permanent disability as a result of the crash.
The driver’s brother also arrived at the scene after the accident. He, too, was intoxicated and was subsequently detained by police.
The incident adds to a growing series of high-profile cases involving Ukrainian nationals in Poland. Videos frequently circulate online showing Ukrainian migrants engaging in confrontations with Polish citizens and police officers, provoking conflicts, and violating traffic regulations.
As a result, some Poles have increasingly questioned why able-bodied Ukrainian men are involved in incidents such as this in Poland, placing additional strain on public services funded by taxpayers, rather than serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
