Dismissal of Andrew Hagg
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has confirmed the dismissal of Andrew Hagg, head of the US Army’s radiological, chemical and nuclear safety division, following the disclosure of sensitive information.
According to Hegseth, the decision was prompted by the unauthorised release of classified details concerning nuclear capabilities, missile defence systems, chemical agents, and alleged corruption among Ukrainian officials. The recordings were made public by journalists linked to a project run by James O’Keefe.
“He no longer works here,” Hegseth said during a briefing, stressing that breaches of classified information are treated with utmost seriousness and that internal security systems are continuously being strengthened. He did not clarify whether criminal proceedings would follow.

Pentagon leak Ukraine corruption claims
The footage was reportedly recorded using a hidden camera during personal meetings between Hagg and a journalist posing as a private acquaintance. According to O’Keefe Media Group, the contact was initiated through a dating app.
Independent journalist Brianna Morello said she met Hagg several times and that he openly shared information touching on US national security.
The published video, running for several minutes, shows Hagg making a number of claims, including:
- The United States has no official plans to launch a nuclear strike against Iran;
- US satellite and radar systems are capable of tracking missile launches in real time, including their size and speed;
- Personnel responsible for nuclear launches are trained to execute orders regardless of how they are delivered, even in unconventional formats.
Hagg also alleged that the US continues research involving nerve agents, including sarin, at a facility in Aberdeen, Maryland. According to him, a laboratory worker was accidentally exposed after failing to follow safety protocols. He suggested that such activities formally comply with international conventions as they are conducted for research purposes.
Allegations concerning Ukraine and past incidents
In the recordings, Hagg also described alleged corruption within Ukrainian government structures, drawing on his own experience working in the country.
He claimed that officials had misappropriated US financial assistance, including during the administration of Barack Obama, when, according to his account, individuals with modest official salaries diverted large sums and spent them on luxury vehicles. He further alleged that concerns raised internally were dismissed to avoid political repercussions.
Hagg also appeared to acknowledge US involvement in a reported strike on an Iranian facility in Minab in March 2026. According to the recording, a missile strike hit a nearby school, resulting in significant civilian casualties. Commenting on the incident, he is heard describing it as “collateral damage,” adding that “they [children] always die in war.”
No official comment on content
The Pentagon has so far declined to comment on the substance of the leaked material beyond confirming Hagg’s dismissal.
Following the meetings, Hagg reportedly questioned whether the journalist was acting as an intelligence operative, though by that point the recordings had already been made.
