Iran has withdrawn from planned negotiations with the United States, citing a lack of prospects for meaningful dialogue, according to the state news agency IRNA.

A source in Iran’s leadership told IRNA that there are “no clear prospects for productive contacts,” confirming that Tehran will not take part in a second round of talks.

Iranian officials justified the decision by pointing to what they described as excessive demands from Washington, unrealistic expectations, shifting positions and repeated contradictions.

Tehran also referred to the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which it characterises as an act of war under international law.

Earlier, IRNA had reported that claims about negotiations scheduled for April 21 in Islamabad were inaccurate.

Global markets reacted quickly to the development. Brent crude prices climbed to $95–96 per barrel, after falling to around $86 just a day earlier.

The spike reflects renewed concerns over stability in the region and the potential impact on energy supplies, particularly given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
