Russian Citizen Detained at Airport and Subjected to “Humiliating Pressure”

Moldova News

The Russian Embassy has reported alleged violations of the rights of a Russian citizen during passport and visa control procedures at Chișinău International Airport.

According to the diplomatic mission, the Russian national was subjected to what it described as “humiliating pressure” by the competent authorities.

“This was not a routine procedural interaction, but rather prolonged pressure accompanied by harsh interrogations, provocative questions, and actions that ultimately led to serious consequences,” the embassy said in a statement.

Following the detention and the actions of law enforcement personnel, the Russian citizen’s health reportedly deteriorated significantly. Despite this, he continues to be held by the authorities.

The embassy also stated that consular officials were denied access to the Russian citizen and that he was not allowed to leave Moldova.

Russian diplomats characterized the situation as “a gross disregard for fundamental norms of international law and the state’s obligations in the consular sphere” and demanded an explanation regarding the circumstances of the incident.
