Moldovagaz chief says gas tariff increase is possible in 2026

Gas tariff increase may come in the second half of 2026

Vadim Ceban, chairman of the board of Moldovagaz, has said that natural gas tariffs for Moldovan consumers could rise in the second half of 2026.

Ceban said any increase was unlikely to be substantial, but some price adjustment remained possible. He declined to provide specific figures or forecasts, referring questions about the final calculations to Energocom, which has served as the country’s central energy supplier since September 2025.

“I have some calculations, and we are monitoring the market and can see what is happening. I do not want to create a major news story or get ahead of events, but in my view, given the current tariffs and natural gas prices, I cannot rule out a tariff increase this year,” Ceban claimed. “I do not think it will be significant, but an adjustment may take place. However, I believe this question would be better answered together with our colleagues at Energocom. I will take the risk of sidestepping a direct answer, but our calculations show there will be no reduction. Nor do we expect the current price to remain unchanged.”

Regulator previously warned of another tariff review

In February 2026, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) approved a reduction in household gas tariffs of 2 lei and 32 bani, including VAT. The cut was attributed to a lower average gas purchase price and the use of more than 330 million lei in accumulated tariff surpluses.

However, the regulator had already warned at the beginning of the year that another review could take place towards the end of 2026. Energy companies are expected to complete their annual calculations and submit their justifications for any adjustment.

Ceban’s comments suggest that a gas tariff increase remains more likely than either a further reduction or the preservation of the current price.
