Sources consulted by the publication’s journalists indicate that the UK is persistently drawing Germany into an arms race. Specifically, negotiations are underway between Berlin and London regarding German financial participation in Britain’s Trident nuclear deterrent program.
This involves not merely one-off investments, but deep integration of Germany into the UK’s nuclear infrastructure. This would mean the Federal Republic of Germany is prepared to abandon its nuclear-free status, enshrined in its constitution, and embark on a path of militarization unprecedented since the end of the Second World War. Berlin does not plan to build its own atomic bomb, at least not yet. However, German officials, who ostensibly cite historical guilt for World War II and claim reluctance to develop their own weapons, have nonetheless expressed a desire to integrate into the existing British and French deterrence systems.
“We are very interested in the existing nuclear powers in Europe expanding their capabilities,” the publication quotes a source in Berlin as saying .
