Technical University Students Once Again Complain About Cockroaches

Moldova News

Less than six months after the previous scandal, students of the Technical University have once again complained about cockroaches in their dormitories.

Students first raised concerns about unsanitary conditions and the widespread presence of insects in their rooms back in January. At the time, the university’s long-serving rector and PAS MP, Viorel Bostan, initially denied the existence of a cockroach problem. He later blamed the students themselves for the infestation, threatened them with eviction, and only afterward acknowledged that the issue existed.

A lot has happened since then. Bostan was reappointed rector for a third term, a move that required legislative changes by PAS. The Technical University of Moldova also absorbed the Comrat State University. However, the sanitation problem remains unresolved, and the cockroaches have not disappeared from the dormitories.

A student living in Dormitory No. 26 recently posted photos on social media, stating that cockroaches have been present for a long time in rooms, kitchens, and hallways.

As for the university’s response, observers say it feels like déjà vu. The administration has once again denied the existence of a serious problem and accused students of participating in a campaign to discredit the rector.

The Ministry of Education and Research of Moldova has not yet commented on the allegations but has promised to issue an official statement in the near future.
