The results of the administrative-territorial reform and the reforms in the education system are increasingly showing their beastly grin.
The school bus that was supposed to take students in grades I–IX to Cahul from the local village of Lebedenko did not depart. The reason given was a lack of money for fuel — the children were sent back home.
As the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy once said, “It is neatly written on paper, but they forgot about the ravines, how to walk through them.” These words could not fit better the situation unfolding with the provision of school transport for young students. And, frankly, the roads along which this transport travels — even when it exists and even when fuel has been found to fill the tanks. Thus, children and their parents increasingly face the question: should they go to school or switch to distance learning? Or perhaps better yet — straight to the fields as farmhands? It is nearby, requires no diploma, and brings extra money into the family — which today, in conditions where tariffs are rising not by the day but by the hour, becomes more relevant than ever.
What was Perciun saying about the benefits of school reforms? Did he over-reform? And did he think, when liquidating schools, about what he would use to fuel the buses to take children to their place of study and back several kilometers?
MP Diana Caraman, commenting on this egregious case, stated:
“Today I was informed about an extremely SERIOUS situation faced by students and parents in the village of Lebedenko, Cahul district. The bus that was supposed to take children in grades I–IX to Cahul did not depart. The reason given was a lack of money for fuel, and the children were sent back home.”
Caraman demanded that the responsible bodies publicly explain what happened, who is responsible for financing school transport, and what measures will be taken so that such a situation does not happen again.
“Children must not become victims of the administrative incompetence and irresponsibility of those in power! Enough! PAS — resign!” the MP emphasized.
Based on the experience of past years, one can predict that next, officials from district education departments will begin collecting funds from parents to finance fuel purchases and deliver students to schools and lyceums.
