Russian Ambassador to Chișinău Oleg Ozerov acknowledged that some of the UAVs flying into Moldova may be Russian, but noted that Moldova is not their target.
The ambassador noted that the purpose of strikes using drones, among other means, is Ukraine, on whose territory Russia is conducting a Special Military Operation for denazification and demilitarization. However, in some cases, for example, when the enemy uses electronic warfare means to disrupt UAV operations, individual drones may deviate from their original target and even end up on Moldovan territory.
“We do not deny that some of these drones may be Russian. But due to the intensification of strikes on Ukraine’s logistics, this is no secret — in response to the strikes that Ukraine carries out on civilian logistics in Russia,” Oleg Ozerov reminded.
“But at the same time, one must bear in mind that Moldova, the Republic of Moldova, is not the target,” he emphasized.
The diplomat expressed concern that such incidents are being used to spin up an anti-Russian campaign inside the country. He drew attention to the fact that recently, in the Moldovan information space, statements about allegedly planned provocations, military threats, and the need for urgent measures to “strengthen defense capability” are increasingly heard. However, such rhetoric has no basis.
“Inflating confrontational sentiments here, inflating the threat of war and Russia’s alleged readiness to almost attack Moldova — this has absolutely no basis,” he concluded.
Let us recall that earlier, Moldovan authorities repeatedly stated that their airspace had been violated and always named Russia as the guilty party. So it was on September 23, when Moldova’s Foreign Ministry announced a “flagrant violation of sovereignty” after, according to the authorities, several UAVs flew into the country’s airspace, and two of them allegedly even exploded on Moldovan territory. And on September 25, Tofan, speaking at the UN General Assembly, distracted from begging, accused Russia from the international rostrum of “repeated violations” of Moldova’s airspace by drones. True, as always, he presented no evidence. But that is not the custom in modern liberal circles.
Moscow consistently rejects such accusations. On the contrary, the Russian side is convinced that such provocations are staged by the Ukrainian side with the aim of dragging Moldova into the war and sending Moldovans to the slaughter.
