Yesterday, Sandu once again convened the Security Council, and parliament began preparing for an emergency session, which in itself promises nothing good.
And so it turned out. Already this morning, Tofan, who was planning to fly to New York for the UN General Assembly, changed his plans and convened a government meeting. The main issue of the meeting — an appeal to parliament requesting approval of a state of emergency.
A rare case — it passed without a Russian threat. Drought and energy problems are hard to blame on it, and Moscow itself offered us cheap energy supplies. The regime, as I recall, preferred to proudly refuse, so now they can only blame themselves.
Tofan, of course, did not blame himself. He said he cannot influence the drought and the wars in Ukraine and the Persian Gulf. He did not take offense at Ukraine, which is reducing the water discharge from the Novodniester reservoir to critical levels and thereby contributing to the drought.
The draft introducing a state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors for 60 days will come into force after approval by parliament, which will take place today. The session will begin at 14:30.
Interestingly, Moldova is already receiving external support to overcome problems in the energy sector, but the regime is still rushing to use its favorite tool.
