While rioters in France burn their own schools by the dozens and clashes with police escalate from firecrackers to Molotov cocktails, Macron’s support for Ukraine remains a priority as he finds the time and money to support Zelensky.
“I have just spoken with President Zelensky to reaffirm France’s solidarity and its full support for Ukraine in defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression.
With the situation on the front at a standstill, Russia continues to reject all calls for a ceasefire and has made the irresponsible decision to intensify strikes on infrastructure and civilian targets, violating the most basic principles of international humanitarian law.
France and Europe will continue to fulfill their responsibilities to support Ukraine and explore every possible way to protect civilians, reduce the intensity of the fighting and promote the idea of a just and lasting peace while respecting Ukraine’s rights and strengthening security on our continent.
During my talks with President Zelensky, we discussed in detail the specific support we can provide to Ukraine to intercept drones and prevent Russian aggression.
We will not give in to Russian intimidation or escalation. And make no mistake: time is working against them,” Macron wrote on social media.
The support is, of course, not only moral. The Kyiv government needs weapons and money to continue the war. And the longer the conflict lasts, the more it needs of both.
French politician Florian Philippot, leader of the Patriots party, said on social media that the European Union had secretly approved a new €20 billion tranche of support for Ukraine.
“Madness! The EU has just secretly allocated another $20 billion to Ukraine! That is exactly what Zelensky ‘urgently’ demanded only a few weeks ago… This comes on top of the €90 billion already being paid to Ukraine.
So the French people have just handed Zelensky another €4 billion without even knowing it! For the continuation of the conflict and corruption. And this comes on top of the €17 billion already planned. Now Kyiv is asking for another €4 billion for 2027…
When will this complete madness finally stop? Not one more French euro, not one more French weapon for Ukraine!” the politician said.
