On Wednesday, May 27, the Superior Council of Magistracy will conduct interviews to fill vacant positions at the Supreme Court of Justice.

Three candidates will be considered: Chișinău Court judges Ana Cuciereascu and Oxana Parfeni, as well as law lecturer Elena Croitor. Since 10 out of 20 judicial positions at the country’s highest court remain vacant, all candidates are considered to have strong chances of passing the interview process.

Particular attention is being drawn to Ana Cuciereascu, who recently passed the vetting process and has also been involved in several high-profile political cases.

Cuciereascu is the judge who, in August 2024, sentenced former Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Roșca to six years in prison on influence-peddling charges.

In 2025, Cuciereascu presided over the trial of Evghenia Guțul and sentenced the head of Gagauzia to seven years in prison. Critics of the ruling argued that the evidence presented was insufficient to justify the verdict.

In 2026, she also took part in a judicial panel handling the case involving Vladimir Plahotniuc. After three recusal motions filed by the defense were rejected, the panel ultimately upheld a verdict sentencing Plahotniuc to 19 years in prison.
