Prime Minister Vasile Tofan appeared in a video in which he advertises the “Zarea” hotel, put up for auction by the state, to potential investors.
The hotel in the center of Chișinău, currently going through, to put it mildly, not its best times, has been put up for privatization. The auction, with a starting price of 106 million lei, will take place on October 20.
The Prime Minister personally visited the property, filmed against its backdrop, and advertised its virtues almost like a real estate agent — more than 31 acres of land, 12 floors, 6,000 square meters of premises.
“This hotel has far greater potential than is being used now. We are looking for investors who want to take part in a transparent auction for this truly unique asset,” the head of government assures.
Tofan does not deny that the reputation of state property privatization in Moldova has historically not been very good, but this time he convinces us that his government will be able to conduct the process transparently, without fraudulent schemes.
We have an interesting government — one goes out himself to open traffic lights, another trades in real estate.
