The British Financial Times, citing sources in Brussels, reports on a planned reorganization of the European External Action Service (EEAS), headed by Maia Sandu’s associate Kaja Kallas.
According to the publication, the reform project is still in its early stages, and senior EU officials are conducting an analysis to determine which functions of Kallas’s department could be redistributed to existing units.
The development of the innovations is expected to continue until October, when the next EU heads of state summit will take place, while their approval should occur in December, when the provisions of the EU budget for 2028–2034 are to be adopted.
Kallas, whose inefficiency and incompetence in her position are largely the reason for the reform, has already brought her conflict with Ursula von der Leyen into the public domain.
“If we have problems because there is someone above me who is actually making decisions, then that is not how it works, let’s speak quite frankly,” she said, speaking at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland.
