Adela Răileanu, a member of the Parliament of Moldova from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), sharply criticized the Ministry of Internal Affairs, accusing it of publishing a caricature of the state coat of arms. She also called on the Patriot center to defend state symbols from desecration.
According to the lawmaker, the ministry published an image of the state symbol created with the help of artificial intelligence. The resulting picture contained distorted state symbols, which, in Răileanu’s view, violates Article 347 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova.
Criticism of the AI-Generated Image
In her post, Răileanu said with indignation that the mistake was not a minor one. She also criticized the quality of the image, comparing the coat of arms to “a kindergarten drawing.”
“When incompetence is combined with technology, the result is not progress but a caricature of the state. The Interior Ministry, which lectures us every day about ‘vigilance,’ ‘disinformation,’ and ‘hybrid threats,’ has managed to mock its own state symbol… with the help of artificial intelligence. We are not talking about a small mistake. We are talking about a ‘coat of arms’ turned into a kindergarten drawing: the eagle became a turkey, and the aurochs turned into a colored blot. Those who are supposed to protect the law, public order, and state symbols have gone so far as to publicly caricature them,” the deputy wrote.
Questions for the Patriot Center
The parliamentarian also pointed to the lack of reaction from the Center for Strategic Communication and Combating Disinformation. She asked whether any review of the incident had been carried out.
She called the silence of the Patriot center, which is under the protection of the Presidential Administration, suspicious, and publicly asked whether the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Moldova itself had been informed about the incident.
The law is not optional and must apply to everyone, including members of PAS, the deputy stressed.
