Law enforcement authorities in Moldova have detained former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Viktor Osipov.
Details of the Charges
As reported on March 24 by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the politician is suspected of abuse of office.
Information about the detention first appeared in the pro-government outlet Ziarul de Gardă, which was the first to report on Osipov’s status within the criminal proceedings.
Connection to the Case of Vladimir Andronachi
The supervisory authority clarified that Osipov’s detention is directly linked to an investigation involving former Member of Parliament from the Democratic Party (DPM), Vladimir Andronachi. The latter was detained for 72 hours earlier this week and is accused of creating and leading a criminal organization.
“Alongside the former member of the legislative body, whose mandate expired in 2019, prosecutors from PCCOCS also detained, within the same case, a former deputy prime minister from the same period, who is charged with abuse of office,” the прокуратура stated, commenting on the synchronized nature of the detentions.
Current Status of the Suspects
At present, both individuals hold the status of suspects. The investigation is examining the circumstances of their activities, which may have led to violations of the law.
