The director of the company Energocom, Victor Bînzari, has announced that he is stepping down from his position. He shared the news with citizens on his social media account.
The statement came at a time of high instability in Moldova’s energy sector. The situation is unfolding against the backdrop of the war between Iran and the United States and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has driven energy prices higher on global markets.
Farewell Statement from Bînzari
In his farewell message, Bînzari said he was leaving his post with a sense of duty fulfilled. He believes that his team managed to ensure the country’s energy security during a critical period. At that time, the prospect of being left without electricity and heating seemed inevitable.
In a post on Facebook, Bînzari summarized his work and focused on overcoming systemic crises:
“We kept the lights and heat on in the country, when it seemed there was no way out. We created new mechanisms. We opened markets and developed solutions. We laid the foundations for a company capable of providing Moldova with safe, modern, European energy resources.”
However, against the backdrop of rapidly rising energy prices, these statements appear controversial. The cost of such “security” remains a subject of debate among citizens of Moldova.
Public Criticism and Questions About Salaries
The rhetoric of the outgoing head of Energocom contrasts with the reaction of the public and politicians.
TV host Ludmila Belchenkova reacted to the resignation by demanding financial transparency. She cited data published by analyst Andrei Ioniță.
According to these statistics, Energocom paid 198 million lei in dividends to the state in 2024. At the same time, the wage fund approved for 2026 exceeds 22 million lei, excluding operating expenses.
Available data show that the average salary in the company reaches 50–60 thousand lei gross per month.
Belchenkova summarized the situation with a short public comment:
“Not bad, right?” the journalist asked citizens of Moldova.
Political Reactions to the Resignation
The resignation of Victor Bînzari comes amid a broader debate about the state of the economy. The discussion has been fueled by energy challenges in recent years and by controversial responses from members of the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (Romanian: Partidul Acțiune și Solidaritate, PAS).
Particular attention was drawn to one phrase in Bînzari’s farewell message: “Together we turned the impossible into the norm.”
Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat sharply criticized this wording. He called it the main “achievement” of the five-year presidency of Maia Sandu.
According to Filat, the phrase actually describes “the undermining of economic stability and an impossible rise in tariffs.” In his view, society has become so accustomed to surviving under new economic conditions that many now mistakenly perceive this “norm” as prosperity.
What Comes Next for Energocom
The resignation of Victor Bînzari therefore marks more than a simple personnel change. It closes an entire chapter in the country’s energy policy.
For some observers, this period saved Moldova from an energy collapse. For others, it entrenched economic instability as a new normal.
The official reasons for Bînzari’s resignation have not yet been announced. The name of his successor has also not been disclosed either by Bînzari himself or by media reports.
