A Moldovan citizen living in the United States shared a video comparing the cost of fuel and utilities in America with prices in Moldova.
She addressed the video to what she called the “so-called diaspora,” arguing that its participation in elections and support for the Party of Action and Solidarity (Romanian: Partidul Acțiune și Solidaritate, PAS) and Maia Sandu has made life for those who remain in Moldova “almost unbearable.”
According to the woman, despite earning what she described as a typical American income of $4,000–$5,000 per month, she spends two to three times less on fuel and utilities than many Moldovans.
For example, she said that heating a 270-square-meter house costs her about $150 per month. In Moldova, she noted, that amount would barely cover heating for a modest 50-square-meter apartment.
Her electricity bill ranges from $100 to $120, while water costs around $50–$60.
The blogger also pointed out that many Americans are currently complaining about rising fuel prices following the escalation of the conflict with Iran. At gas stations, she said, a gallon (3.9 liters) now costs around $3.30–$3.40, which translates to roughly 14 Moldovan lei per liter.
“Stay strong, we are with you,” the woman said in her message.
“At the same time, even though I am part of the diaspora myself, I believe we should not have the right to vote and decide for you who becomes president or which party leads the country. It’s simply unfair to those who live in Moldova.”
