While the whole world watches the events in the Middle East with alarm, and Trump, hoping to soften the impact of the oil shock, lifts anti-Russian sanctions, Popsoi sanctions Russians and continues his campaign against “hybrid aggression.”
Six Public Figures Targeted
This time, his attention turned to four Russian television hosts and two performers. The sanctions list includes news and political program hosts Ekaterina Andreeva, Pavel Zarubin, and Maria Sittel, sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev, rapper Roman Chumakov (Zhigan), and ballet dancer Sergei Polunin.
Little Practical Effect
Whether any of these six had interests in Moldova at all, and how the sanctions have affected them, remains unclear. Most likely, not at all, and the practical effect of the sanctions is close to zero.
What remains is another empty but demonstrative anti-Russian gesture. The whole world can wait. Popșoi has a struggle of his own.
