The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) has reported new cases of dangerous animal diseases in Moldova.
According to the agency, an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) was recorded among wild boars near the village of Codreni in Cimișlia district during the period from March 9 to March 15. Specialists also detected rabies in three dogs in Strășeni and Rîșcani districts, as well as in a fox in Drochia district.
In connection with these outbreaks, the agency is urging citizens to be cautious when encountering wild or stray animals. It also reminded the public of urgent steps to take in the event of a bite or contact with saliva. People should immediately wash the wound with soap and water and seek medical assistance. In addition, the incident must be reported to the territorial subdivision of ANSA.
The situation in Moldova regarding the spread of dangerous animal diseases remains tense. Packs of stray dogs continue to roam around urban outskirts. At the same time, ASF detected among wild boars could easily spread to domestic livestock, so farmers are being urged to remain especially vigilant.
ANSA also reminded the public that a reward of 50 euros is offered for reporting the discovery of wild boar carcasses.
