Victoria Furtună Defeats PAS in Court and Demands Accountability

Moldova News

Victoria Furtună, leader of the Moldova Mare Party, has won a court case against state authorities. The court ruled that the actions taken against her were unlawful and confirmed her right to financial compensation.

As Furtună reported on her Telegram channel, the court upheld her lawsuit to protect her reputation and ordered compensation to be paid from the state budget.

Origins of the Case

The case dates back to the period when Victoria Furtună served as a prosecutor in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

At that time, she opened a criminal case concerning the falsification of public documents. The investigation involved representatives of the Information and Security Service (SIS) and the Presidential Administration of Maia Sandu.

According to Furtună, the investigation was intended to stop pressure on judges considered undesirable by the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (Romanian: Partidul Acțiune și Solidaritate, PAS).

Criminal Case Against Furtună

After information about the investigation reached the Presidential Administration, criminal proceedings were launched against Furtună.

The case was accompanied by searches and a public campaign aimed at discrediting her. According to the politician, the campaign was supported by media outlets affiliated with PAS.

“All of this was used to discredit me and force me into silence,” Furtună said.

Investigation Closed After Her Resignation

Victoria Furtună also highlighted what she described as a key detail in the case. After she left the Prosecutor’s Office, the criminal investigation against her was immediately closed.

In her view, this confirms that the accusations were unfounded. She believes the case was part of a coordinated pressure campaign intended to stop the investigation she had initiated.

Demand for Accountability

Despite winning the lengthy court case, Furtună disagrees with the decision to recover compensation from the state budget. In practice, this means the money would come from taxpayers.

The leader of Moldova Mare says she will seek criminal proceedings against the officials who initiated the pressure against her. According to her, these actions were aimed at forcing her dismissal from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Furtună insists that those responsible — particularly officials linked to PAS — should personally compensate the damages or face criminal liability.

For the politician, the case is not only a personal fight for honor and dignity. She believes it is important to hold those responsible accountable so that, in the future, “those who abuse power bear personal responsibility.”
